what i want this week

this week’s shopping list is an odd blend of fall-focused items (hi cozy sweaters and cute chestnut leather totes) and a few final odes to summer (those mirrored j.crew sandals are sold out, sadly, but they’re still on my wishlist). i cannot believe that summer has flown by so fast. it’s usually my least favorite season, but new york has mercifully been spared the terrible sweat lodge days i hate, and this summer has actually been quite lovely. i’ve been away for the past 2 weekends at the beach (rhode island and my first visit to montauk, respectively), and tonight, i head away for 5 days in asbury park. dirty jerz, here i come! i feel like once this weekend is over, and i settle back into my routine, i’ll be ready for fall. cold weather, crisp air, brightly colored leaves…ahh, autumn, i heart you.

this week in things on my wishlist: a flowy, asymmetrical dress that’s perfect for summer nights, the cutest little iphone case i ever did see, and a leopard print desktop organizer. i’m also super coveting those loeffler randall espadrilles, which are on sale for under $150 (a good deal for LR). i keep seeing them on other people’s feet and feeling this insane jealous urge to make them MINE. not weird at all, i swear. but then i tell myself i could get soludos for 1/4 of the price, and i hold off on ordering. thoughts?  if only a magical fairy would just deposit them on my feet like glass slippers. hey, a girl can dream!

we might be back to cold air here in new york, but i’ve got spring on the brain, and in particular, floaty dresses like the red and white michelle mason number above. there’s something about pairing an easy, slinky silk dress with sandals, adding some simple gold jewelry, and calling it a day. it’s dressing at its most simple. while i tend to despise summer humidity, and in general, don’t like summer clothing as much as i adore winter layers, i do love myself a good maxi skirt/dress situation. i’ve got my eye on this one, as well as this one (both from anthro). spring and summer are also about more natural hair, so i’m going to be splurging on a tiny little bottle of hairdresser’s invisible oil, which the beauty goddesses swear eliminates frizz and flyaways while hydrating the hair. SOLD.

also on my wishlist: a gorgeous mercury glass lamp that’s way out of my budget (i’ll be hunting for a properly priced twin at homegoods/tjmaxx, wish me luck!), glitter chargers (!!!!), cute little senegalese storage baskets from serena and lily, an easy t-shirt dress that i’m pretty sure i’ll wear every day of the week from the moment it arrives on my doorstep, plus a few other fun bits and baubles.

this week’s wishlist is a bit all over the place. there’s a comfy tie dye t-shirt dress that’s perfect for spring (and would look great with a leather moto jacket), a pair of d’orsay flats from madewell that give the look of jenni kayne without the price tag, a marble pastry board that will pretty up my food posts (the fugly granite in my kitchen does me no favors), a pair of sparkly supergas that ring in at just $70 buckaroos, and the cutest filing cabinet i’ve ever seen.

i’m still trying to figure out if i can pull off reflective sunglasses, and i’m pretty sure that bb dakota dress above isn’t exactly suited for my body type, but hey, a girl can dream, right?

also on the list: adorable earrings, and a cult favorite hand cream. i’ve yet to make it to the aesop store in soho, but now that i’m working in the neighborhood, i think a trip there is in order. my crackly gross hands (that, no joke, were so bad that my manicurist scolded me. scolded me!) could benefit from some loving now that winter seems to have finally released us from her grasp.

in other happy news, tomorrow is friday, i have the day off (!!!) thanks to a “comp day” my wonderful boss gave me in exchange for working through the weekend a few weeks ago, and i’m getting my hair cut (shorter, please!). hip hip hooray for the weekend!

mad for plaid

i think i may have fallen in love with a preppy staple (who am i and what have i done?). guys, i’m totally falling for plaid, thanks to this gorgeous stella mccartney sweater. i want to wear it with black skinnies and jenni kayne flats. i want to wear it with leggings and studded moto boots. i want to wear it with a leather skirt and black court shoes. GAH. it is oh so expensive. le sigh, stella, le sigh. i could never fathom spending a month of rent on a sweater, so in the meantime, i’ll get my fix with this much cheaper urban outfitters option.

those of you who follow me on instagram may have caught a glimpse of my most favorite recent purchase: a cat sweatshirt from forever21. i haven’t shopped at “forevs” much in the past few years (in college, i could be spotted filling my arms with “going out shirts” at the retailer multiple times a week. oopsies, shopping addiction!), but i happened to pop in after work on friday, and boy am i glad i did. apparently, sweatshirts are really in for fall. who knew! i’m a big fan of comfy clothes, so anytime something formerly schlumpy becomes acceptable and stylish, you can count me in. f21 had a variety of chic sweatshirts up for grabs, and most were between $17-22. can you say score? i picked up two: the cat print you see in the shot above (pardon my lack of makeup and by lazy bun), and this fun “team paris” option. i made it all the way to checkout with this one as well, whereupon i realized it was slightly ridiculous to spend $60 on sweatshirts, two of which were cat themed. #crazycatlady.

you wouldn’t believe how much cat-themed stuff there was at f21. iphone cases. cosmetic bags. tshirts, crop tops, sweatshirts, skirts, blouses. cats are in, you guys. like, really in. to the point where both forever and zara are making knockoffs of the beloved charlotte olympia cat flats.

it’s safe to say i’ve been waiting for this moment all of my life – the moment when it’s cool to be a cat lady.

does this mean i can find a husband soon? want to get in on the kitty cat goodness? shop the looks below.

Cool Cats

with a shoe.

meet the burberry prosum heart-printed ponyskin loafers. whewf, can you say that one ten times fast? i can’t. guess i’d better work on my diction.

at a staggering $495, these babies are way out of my price range. but here’s hoping they go on sale, or someone makes a knockoff (sorry, burberry, but women say crazy things when they’re in love).
